30 year old Ibanez - Can We Save It?
This is an Ibanez RG470JB from 1994, or at least it was.... It's had a bit of a hard life and is currently just parts. I plan to swirl this guitar and restore it back into playing condition. Join me on the journey.

I purchased my first Sound System in the late 70's when I started my first small band. It is a PA-100, (100 watt high impedance with 2 speakers. I still have it and it works, it never broke. Fast forward to present day, I was trained by the biggest and best live sound companies here in Hawaii. The repair people is shrinking here and the last best guy mentioned of all the different manufacturers that came after Peavey, Peavey was the best, (I agree). I also play guitar and I am a firm believer in Vacuum Tubes. I do like the Fender sound, but own 1940's Gibson and Rickenbaucher Point to Point wires amps, (yes they still work). The amp I gig with is a point to point all tube custom made head, (made by a good friend). I would like to get a Tweed, Peavey Classic 30 amp one day. Currently I am in a Roots Reggae Band for the past 16 years.

I love my Victory Kraken MKII, and Modelers Sound great these days, but I don't think Combos, Lunchboxes or Modelers will be the future for the next years. Pedalboard amps like Bluguitar or Baroni Jeval will be. They are mostly analog, have all the advantages of tubes, are loud and fit on your pedalboard. A lot of people don't like modelers because of the never ending possibilities of sound vatiations. You can spend hours and hours for dialing in.

To be honest I like the vernon reid look more, the dip finish has been become so ubiquitous these days that it is kinda boring..but thats just me. Plus its the luck of a draw if its gonna turn out great. Companies like kiesel can repeat the process until the result looks great but it might be getting expensive fast for a hobbyist for a single guitar.

The absolute worst part of this is that Paul has everything necessary to get some objective data on this. He could build two identical guitars but made of different wood or materials then swap the exact same pickup from one guitar to the other after recording each one. Then do a blind AB test with a few people and take notes.

U notice the subtle differences in the sound of different strings & amps & all that & pretend not 2 hear the differences in wood, which just proves U R a stupid troll trying to spread bad advice to sabotage people. Just because all you care about is how a guitar looks doesn't mean mahogany doesn't sound the best for guitar, & alnico II pickups, & thinner 'gage' (however U spell it) strings (more compressed & even & 'vast' less 'plonly' vibe). The real '$candal' is that if PRS actually cared about tone & performance more than $camming people, they would never use any maple in their guitars, because maple ruins tone (relatively speaking) = nasal & 'flat' vibe rather than 'intricate & evolving' like mahogany. Maple tops kill tone = compared 2 mahogany or many others. 'Basswood' has farty blurry lame lows, & so on, like how walnut sounds like Koa but with the highs blunted off = like a 'low budget low fi koa' LOL Ash has a scooped midreange & snappy spikey tone with more solid lows than Alder, which is more low mid focused & smooth, & so on. don't actually believe N E thing U R saying against 'tone wood'. The real 'inside scoop' is that the cheap import 'trash' SE guitars often sound better than the high budget PRS because they use softer materials like cheap frets & nuts & stuff & other 'garbage' that actually IMPROVES the SOUND! =)) N E 1 who has played an 'Gibson SG' style guitar compared to a Les Paul, or any other guitar in maple body vs mahogany of the same shape & other stuff can easily hear the difference, same as you do, & in isolation like many recordings = what U R doing is a $cam I have fallen into myself 2 = U tricked me into typing a lot of 'comments', but I am not doing this 4 U but 4 the audience in hopes they will not B tricked by U into wasting literally years of their life & thousands of dollars 'searching 4 tone' when they could bypass all that WASTE & just get an all mahogany guitar & put alnico II magnets in the pickups & get the 'magic tone' in the 1'st place in 1 simple step =) N E 1 wanting more details can mail me at 'balkanguy (at) live (dot) com'.

Do an isolated audio test between two guitars with the same action, neck, bridge, frets, strings, electronics, tuning machines with the difference only being the wood and see how much different it sounds. To answer my own prompt, it doesn't sound any different. If someone were to scam you it would be the person selling you expensive wood that ups the price of the guitar by 300 dollars not someone trying to save your money.

@KDH this is how I got scammed that no YT is talking about. I listed my guitar for sale for £1000. I received an offer of £950 and in that offer was a message dressed as if it came from the Reverb team that my bank account needed verification due to system updates. I clicked on the link and took me to a fake Reverb page. It asked for bank details and for extra security required by the bank the balance on my account. Then I got told to verify that I have access to that account they will temporarily take £300 then send it back. I was rushing back to work so I agreed to it. Then the fake Reverb agent said the money got stuck in between 2 banks and I needed to add another £600 to it. At that point I knew I got scammed. Reverb didn't help and my bank couldn't stop the transaction even if it showed as pending. Now I am trying to get my money back through a dispute process. I asked why Reverb does allow hyperlinks in the messages but no reaction. They could do so much more to protect us.

Sorry I'm a year late to the party, I bought a ML-1 for $599 from Guitar center over a year ago. I've owned a lot of guitars and I have to say the ML-1 is on par with Squire, probably a little below as I had to shim the neck on the ML-1 and I've never had to shim a Squire. I traded it to a fanboy for a Mexican Fender and ran away saying "giggity" all the way.

God, I love em both! But I certainly had more difficulties with the Kahler. I had a kahler before I had floyds, and it took me YEARS to figure out how to properly set it up to stay in tune, but once I had, it worked just fine! Years later I had my first floyd guitar and then I definitely saw, how so many people prefer it. Less moving parts, no ball endings getting wound open, causing tuning and string breaking issues. My experience with the Kahler helped me troubleshooting the floyd easier. The main reason, why I play more floyd than Kahler is simply because, though a Floyd is not exactly cheap, they're lot more affordable and attainable, especially in Europe! Wish Kahler had more retail in Europe, so I can easier get my hands on them for less money! What do you guys think?
